The Center for Policy Design is pleased to have been able to assist Charles Kyte in his research on this significant innovation by these two Minnesota school districts, and in its publication.
Earlier, Minnesota had found ways to create individual new schools built on the idea of student-centered learning . . . and individual new schools organized to enlarge teachers’ professional role (for this, see
https://www.teacherpowered.org). It has been far harder to introduce these principles and practices generally into existing schools into the mainline district sector.
Dr. Kyte’s study strongly suggests these two districts have discovered a way to do precisely that, combining the two. This could be a breakthrough in education policy of major local – and national – significance. We invite your attention to their effort; especially to the comments of the teachers and administrators involved. And invite also, of course, your comments and reactions.
